Q: Why is transformer isolation so important?
A: When two amplifiers are connected together, they invariably will share the same electrical ground. This leaves them open to stray DC currents circulating between themselves which more often than not, will cause hum and buzz. This effect is commonly known as a ground loop. Transformers allow AC to pass but are extremely efficient at stopping DC noise. By bridging the audio signal through a transformer, the stray currents are reduced and so is noise. Transformers also allow you to reverse the polarity to ensure both amps play in phase..

Q: What's the difference between the Twin-City and the more expensive Tonebone Switchbone?
A: The Switchbone is a 100% discreet, class-A device that is equipped with a tuner output and variable gain power booster. The Twin-City is basically a pared down version of the Switchbone that is both smaller and more affordable.

Q: What is EIS Electronic Impulse Switching?
A: Although the switches on the Bones look like regular switches, they are in fact special non-latching momentary switches that activate an internal electronic switch which does the actual signal switching. Because this avoids mechanical switching, problems such as wear and tear, or contacts sticking, are significantly reduced. The result: you get longer trouble-free switch life.

Q: > When you set the twin city to A and then you click Both so that you now have A and B, if you click Both again, does it automatically go back to A.?
A: The answer is Yes. The Twin-City will revert back to the last setting.

Q: Do the new Bones work with batteries or only with an adaptor?
A: Because of the high quality class-A circuitry we employ, a battery
does not generate sufficient current long enough to be useful. So the
Bones require an external power supply. Good news is that they will work with any typical 'Boss-style' adaptor.

Q: have an old 2-channel Fender Deluxe that does not have channel switching. How should I set the polarity (phase) and ground lift switches when using the TwinCity?
A: The two channels are often out of phase with each other on older Fender
amps. To test, plug in both inputs and set the Twin-City to BOTH. If the
signal is thin, they are likely out of phase. Hit the 180 reverse and select
the position that sounds warmer (fat). The ground lift may not make much difference as the TwinCity outputs will be connected to the same amp electrical ground.

Q: Can I use the Twin-City to switch between two amp channels on amps such as Vox,Fender,or Marshall 18 and 20 watters that have two seperate channels but no switching? Also, can it be used in Y mode to the same effect as jumpering the two channels?
A: Yes!

Q: Where in the chain do you connect mono guitar pedals in a stereo rig?

A: These would be connected before the Twin City or other ABY box.

Q: I have a Whirlwind ABY box connected to a Fender and a Vox and am getting huge hum. What do I do?

A: This is a common problem with ABY boxes that do not have isolation. The Bones Twin City has a buffered circuit so it is unlikely you will have this problem. Alternatively, if you are on a budget you can use a Radial BigShot ABY and turn on the transformer isolation circuit ('ISO' switch). For professional applications, we recommend the Tonebone Switchbone, which is probably the best ABY box ever made.
