Radial Bassbone Master Control

Vancouver BC: Radial Engineering is pleased to to announce the latest addition to the Tonebone range of pedals, the Radial Bassbone, a bass system master control that lets the player transition between two bases, control an effect loop, power booster and drive a tuner!

Today, most bassists perform using two bases. This is typically a passive instrument like a Fender Precision and then one of the new generation 5 or 6 string active instruments. The difficulty here is transitioning from one bas to the other during a performance as both instruments have very different levels and tonal shaping requirements.

The Bassbone solves the problem by providing the bass player with a two channel bass preamp with individual level controls for each instrument. Channel / instrument one is a basic ‘through channel’ whereby the bass EQ would be set on the amplifier as usual. Channel two features a powerful EQ that is designed to override the amps EQ settings so that the second bass sounds right.

On gigs where only one bass may be required, the Bassbone automatically converts to a two channel pre-amp, allowing the player to set-up two completely different tones, creating the illusion of two bases. This is of particular value for players that use older amplifiers that do not have the ability to achieve some of the more dramatic EQ curves that may be obtained with newer generation amplifiers and on-board active preamps.

To further ad fun and flexibility, the Bassbone features a second foot switch that activates a combination power-booster and effects loop circuit. A selector-switch assigns the foot-switch for choice of boost, effect or both allowing the bass player to introduce a flanger and a boost at the same time. This allows one to remove those noisy effects pedals out of the circuit when not used.

A separate high-gain tuner output is provided that has been band-pass equalized to reduce meter jumping. This is always on to allow continuous tuner monitoring. Finally, a post-Bassbone balanced XLR output allows the Bassbone to act as a DI sending EQ and level control changes to the mixer. This handy feature allows the bass player to control the level and EQ going to the mixer when not using a sound engineer. This also eliminates bringing the bass amplifier to practice sessions and small coffee house gigs whereby the bass can be run through the PA and monitors.
